Assassin’s Creed Odyssey PC/Xbox One review

Ubisoft’s tentpole franchise continues with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, this time taking the action to Ancient Greece.

Prior to starting my Assassin’s Creed Odyssey playthrough, I’d spent a month or so battling through the last knockings of 2017’s year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins. The month before, I cleaned up the now three-year-old Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Hardly seems like the actions of someone that really enjoys the Assassin’s Creed series, does it? Well, the great thing about Assassin’s Creed games, and their biggest problem, is that they are huge. Continue reading Assassin’s Creed Odyssey PC/Xbox One review

V-Rally 4 Xbox One review

After a sixteen-year hiatus, Bigben and Kylotonn bring us V-Rally 4, but do the former WRC team have the chops to take on such a revered franchise?

With September being the traditional launch month for Bigben’s World Rally Championship games, the appearance of V-Rally 4, instead, suggest some licencing changes are afoot. Whilst Kylotonn have upped their game over the last couple of years, their TT Isle of Man: Ride to the Edge was one of the best motorcycling games I’ve played in a while, their WRC games are a bit samey.

FIFA 19 Xbox One/Switch/PC review

Football, the beautiful game. This year there’s no football game more beautiful than EA Sports’ FIFA 19.

Up until recently, FIFA fans were treated only to the usual, annual, rooster updates and gameplay tweaks that, for a reviewer, sounded a more like marketing hyperbole than genuine reasons to buy the latest iteration. The franchise has got to the point that the game is pretty damn close to watching football on live on TV. Continue reading FIFA 19 Xbox One/Switch/PC review

Warhammer Vermintide 2: Shadows Over Bögenhafen DLC review

Fatshark’s excellent Warhammer Vermintide 2 gets it first DLC, Shadows Over Bögenhafen.

Taking more than just a leaf out of zombie slashers Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, Vermintide 2 is a third-person melee combat game whereby player take a role in a party of four. Like it’s zombie- filled Left 4 Dead cousins, your three companions can either be computer-controlled bots or other players. The game also features drop-in/drop-out multiplayer. This makes hosting or joining a game super-easy with no annoying wait time. Continue reading Warhammer Vermintide 2: Shadows Over Bögenhafen DLC review

Forza Horizon 4 Xbox One review

Who would have thought that Forza Motorsport’s “missing” campaign spin-off, Forza Horizon would ellipse it’s pure racing brethren and become THE racing game on the Xbox One.

Whilst Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport games may give us the physics and the cars, they can be a rather dour affair. Still one of the best racing franchises out there, but a little on the serious side. It’s younger sibling, Forza Horizon is a relative hooligan in comparison, and I believe that is exactly what Playground Games are aiming for. Continue reading Forza Horizon 4 Xbox One review
