The Inbetweeners

The Inbetweeners

Just watched the first series of hit UK comedy show, The Inbetweeners. Ordinarily I’d write here exactly when you can watch this show in New Zealand, but due to the TVNZ site being pretty bereft of any useful info, I’ve no idea. I think it is on the telly at some time or other.

Anyway. The show ran for three short  series, as is the norm over in the UK, from 2008 to 2010. The show tells the story of the new boy at school, Will, and his adjustment from private education to a UK state-run comprehensive sixth-form. Will befriends a cadre of fellow losers, the lovelorn Simon, the cerebelly vacant Neil and the borderline sex-pest Jay.

As a former denizen of a UK  secondary modern, the show is a painfully funny, but realistic, portrayal of the UK school system. Profanity reigns supreme as the boys, especially Jay,utter every different  name possible for the female genitalia as well as various sexual acts, whist accusing each other and everyone around them of being a “bender”. Takes me right back, it does.

It is the second time this week I’ve been blown away by a TV show, the first being HBO’s Game of Thrones. If you haven’t seen The Inbetweeners yet you can buy series one from Mighty Ape.

With a feature film version in the works, there has never been a better time to check out this cracking bit of British comedy. Check out the clip and the movie trailer below.

  1. It’s been along time since I’ve watched something that has almost made me piss myself with laughter. Now that I’m the wrong side of forty, things like that start to be a very real concern :).
